Truro City won their first home game of the season as Ben Watson came off the bench to score twice in their 2-1 victory over Hungerford Town. After a stalemate in the first half, Watson came on for Barry Hayles with 30 minutes to go and hit the opener three minutes later. The striker doubled his tally with 16 minutes left before the visitors pulled one back late in the game. But City held on to move up to 10th in the Southern Premier League. BBC Sport

Truro City’s winning run in the Southern Premier League came to an end after a 1-1 draw at Weymouth. City stay fifth in the table, having climbed into the play-off places after winning their previous four matches. Rob Farkins gave Truro a 37th minute lead which they looked like holding when third-placed Weymouth’s Chris Shephard was sent off soon after. But Truro’s all-time leading scorer, Stewart Yetton, foiled his former club with a 65th-minute equaliser. “I think before the game if you’d have given me a draw I would have taken it.” manager Steve Tully told BBC Radio Cornwall. “But the way the game panned out I think it was one of those situations where we should have won it. To go 1-0 up and then they have a player sent off, you think you have enough to go on and win the game, but we didn’t and that’s the most disappointing thing. But we’re still undefeated so we’ll keep going and that’s the most important thing.” BBC Sport

Truro City have been challenged to maintain their good form ahead of the Southern League Premier play-offs by coach Wayne Carlisle. The White Tigers are eight points clear in third place with five games to play after back-to-back wins over Easter. “We’ve got to just to make sure we hit the play-offs with a bit of momentum” Carlisle told BBC Radio Cornwall. “If we keep winning our games until the play-offs then we go in there off the back of a good streak of form.” Truro won 4-0 at Redditch United on Saturday before a 2-0 victory over rivals Weymouth 48 hours later. A top-three finish would secure Truro a home tie in the play-offs against a side below them in the table. “That’s the objective, to make sure we get that home tie and, ultimately, if we get to the play-off final, we get that home tie in the play-off final.” Carlisle added. “If you’d said to me at the start of the season that we’d be in this position I’d have said ‘so we should be’, we’ve got good players, we’ve got good supporters and a good set up at the club. A club like this should be where we are.” BBC Sport

Truro City secured a home promotion play-off tie in the Southern Premier League after beating leaders Corby Town 2-1 at Treyew Road. The victory, which was sealed thanks to Shane White’s late penalty, ensures Steve Tully’s side can finish no lower than third in the division. City went behind after an early mistake by goalkeeper Tom McHale, but Craig Duff equalised soon after half-time. “The way the lads played was a credit to them.” Tully told BBC Cornwall. “I never felt like we were going to lose the game, even at half-time when we were 1-0 down, I always felt we’d get chances and we’ve got that spirit in the squad – they never give up.” he added. Truro could still win the league if they win their remaining two fixtures and Corby fail to get a win, while second-placed Poole Town have four games to go and are only one point above City. “We want to finish as high as we can, if we win the next two anything can happen.” Tully said. “There’s a lot of football to be played, Corby have got to play all their games away from home, Poole have got a tough run in. We can only finish on 89 points and we’ll try and see where that takes us. This is a club going places and we’ll make sure we keep striving to keep the club going forward.” BBC Sport

Isaac Vassell’s late header earned Truro City a home play-off final in the Southern Premier League with a 1-0 win over Hungerford Town at Treyew Road. The substitutes’ winner means Steve Tully’s side will host St Neots Town for a place in Conference South. “The biggest word was ‘patience’ – believe it’s going to come and it will.” Tully told BBC Radio Cornwall. “Vass’ pace really frightens teams and I’m delighted he scored because he’s deserved that.” In the other semi-final, St Neots beat Poole Town, who finished second, meaning Truro have home advantage for the play-off final on Bank Holiday Monday. The White Tigers have not lost a home league game since October, when they were beaten 4-1 by Cirencester Town. “I thought we thoroughly deserved to win – I don’t think they had a shot on target.” added Tully. “We enjoy playing football here (Treyew Road), the supporters are great, and we’ll work hard between now and Monday.” BBC Sport

Truro City have been promoted to the Conference South after beating St Neots Town 1-0 in the Southern Premier League play-off final. Shane White’s 68th-minute penalty in front of 1,450 fans saw City return to the Conference South after two seasons. “We are the best team in the play-offs and sometimes you don’t get what you deserve, but I’m delighted that we have.” said manager Steve Tully. Tully, who is in his first role as manager. After a shaky start where the club lost eight league games in the first three months of the season, he built what proved to be the strongest side in the division. Since the start of November they have lost just four league games and ended the season in third place in the Southern Premier League. “From the day we came in we said we wanted to organise, have a strong team, strong unit, and the way the club has bought into what we’ve wanted is a great thing.” Tully told BBC Radio Cornwall. “I’m delighted for the chairman, he’s done a great job and we’re really pleased that he’s backed us whatever we’ve done. You can’t have a greater chairman. I know I’m biased because he’s the first chairman I’ve ever had, but whatever I’ve asked for he’s always said ‘yes’ and you don’t get many like that.” Chairman Peter Masters took over along with Philip Perryman after former owner Kevin Heaney was declared bankrupt and the club faced a winding-up petition. “If it wasn’t for the chairman there wouldn’t be a Truro City Football Club, so for what he’s done for the club, it’s great for the town and I’m delighted.” Tully added.
