Truro City Football Club returned to Cornwall after three seasons away ground sharing at Plymouth Parkway and Gloucester City to play football in their new home at the Truro City Stadium. And what a season it was! Before a ball had even been kicked, the majority of supporters of rival clubs predicted Truro to finish no higher than 18th in the league at the end of the season, with many thinking we would be relegated from the National League South after finishing 16th the season before, but in true Truro style, we threw the form book out the window and won the bleddy league!!

Truro City’s first match in their new stadium was delayed soon after kick-off due to a clash of shirts between the home side and visitors Dorking Wanderers. Dorking’s orange tops clashed with Truro’s new red home kit and, after just three minutes, the visitors went off the field. When they returned they had turned their shirts inside out – a situation which lasted the rest of the game. Dorking beat Truro 2-1 in the National League South as City returned to Cornwall for the first time in almost four years after work on their new ground was completed. “I’ve never seen anything like it. I’ve been in football for a very, very long time,” new Truro City boss John Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “I’ve seen it where teams have turned up with a strip that clashes, but I’ve never seen a team run out. When I first saw them coming I couldn’t recognise any of our players because I thought it was us. So, for the referee to allow it to go that far I think it’s probably summed up her performance today.” Dorking, who were relegated from the National League last season went ahead when Jimmy Muitt’s 15th minute goal quietened the crowd of 2,676. But City striker Tyler Harvey levelled the scores after 31 minutes, only for Charlie Carter to get what proved to be a winner three minutes into the second half. “I’ve got mixed emotions,” said former York City and Macclesfield Town boss Askey, who took over at Truro in the summer after Paul Wotton left to manage Torquay United. “It was great to see so many people here and a good atmosphere, and once we got to grips with Dorking we started to cause them one or two problems. I’m disappointed in the first goal that I thought was a blatant foul, but it happens and we did well to get ourselves back in the game. We were in a good position and you think ‘we’ll start getting them rattled’ and then we concede from a corner – people losing their men and not reacting to the second ball. But I can’t ask more of the players, I thought the players worked really hard and they’re a team that are fancied to go straight back up with a huge budget, so I thought our players did well.” BBC Sport

Maidstone suffered their first defeat of the season after late drama at the Gallagher Stadium. Stones substitute Reiss Greenidge appeared to have rescued a point with five minutes remaining after cancelling out Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain’s first-half opener. But there was another twist as Jaze Kabia’s 89th-minute effort was adjudged to have crossed the line by a linesman, much to the frustration of the home fans. Kent Online

Tyler Harvey marked his new contract at Truro City by scoring twice as his side came from a goal down to beat Enfield Town 3-1 in National League South. Michael Folivi had given the visitors the lead five minutes before half-time in front of more than 1,500 at the Tinners’ new stadium. But Seidou Sanogo got his first goal for the club seven minutes after half-time as he backheeled into the bottom corner to level the scores. Harvey – who signed a new ‘long term deal’ on Thursday – headed City in front three minutes later before he squeezed the ball in at the near post with 15 minutes left as he got his third goal in four games. “He’s very calm and composed in front of goal and had two great finishes,” Truro assistant manager Stewart Yetton told BBC Radio Cornwall. “I’m really pleased that he’s committed his future to the club, I think that’s huge for the football club. He’s our talisman and he showed again today his prowess in front of goal, so I’m really pleased for him.” BBC Sport

Truro City manager John Askey says Tyler Harvey is “as good as any striker in the league”, after his side came from behind to beat Chelmsford City 2-1 in the National League South. Ipswich Town loanee Osman Foyo gave the visitors the lead after 33 minutes, firing past Tinners keeper Dan Lavercombe. Harvey was brought on with half an hour to go, equalising with an 85th-minute free-kick, and slotting home the winner deep into stoppage time. Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall: “My players showed great resolve to come away with a win, it’s fantastic.” The late double took Harvey’s goal tally to five for the season. Askey said the club were “fortunate” to have him. He added: “When you’ve got someone like (Tyler) who can come on, and again he’s made a huge difference, he’s as good as any striker in the league. We’re fortunate to have him and that’s just what he does.” Truro sit third in National League South and remain unbeaten since the opening day of the season. “It’s important we win (at home) and make it a really hard place for teams to come,” Askey said. “It’s a big advantage for Truro to be playing at (the Sports Hub), and it’s what we’ve missed for several years. You can feel the crowd really getting behind us and getting more and more vocal. If we can win our home games and nick points from away games it’ll put us in a really good position.” BBC Sport

Truro City boss John Askey has hinted he will make changes to his starting line-up after Tuesday’s defeat by Bath City. The Tinners were beaten 1-0 in National League South after a late first-half goal from forward Solomon Wanjau-Smith. The loss ended Truro’s three-game winning run and saw them drop to seventh in the table. Speaking after the match, Askey said: “We should have come away with at least a draw. We haven’t performed at our best, (but we) created the better chances, and at the end we should’ve scored. The frustrating part of it was our poor defending because they got in two-on-one and that shouldn’t happen. You can’t say we dominated the game by any means, but they often puffed without creating any chances. We made it hard for ourselves by conceding that goal just before half-time when obviously we should be making sure we go in at 0-0.” On Saturday, Truro welcome sixth-placed Eastbourne Borough to the Sports Hub, and Askey said his players are aware he might switch things up. “The loss gives other lads the opportunity to play the next game, because if we were always winning then those chances won’t arise for other players,” he added. “They know there’s competition for places and this opens things up, giving the lads an opportunity.” BBC Sport

Truro City manager John Askey says his side played the best they have all season, despite losing 1-0 at home to Eastbourne Borough. Dominic Johnson-Fisher had a 31st-minute goal disallowed for the Tinners, who missed numerous chances to score. Alfie Pavey’s 56th-minute goal proved decisive as Connor Riley-Lowe had an effort saved and Tom Harrison headed against the post. The loss leaves Truro in eighth place in National League South. “I thought it was the best we’ve played this season, as daft as it sounds,” Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “I know we won 5-0 the other day, but I thought we played a lot better. On another day we would have won the game comfortably. They did only have one shot on target and we’ve had numerous chances – we’ve hit the post three times and it just wasn’t our day. If you play like that then you would expect to win, but we all know football can be cruel at times. But we have to take heart from it and I think everybody who came could see that on the day we were the better team, although the result doesn’t reflect that.” BBC Sport

Truro City manager John Askey hailed top scorer Tyler Harvey after he earned the Tinners a 2-1 win at Aveley in National League South. Jaze Kabia had given Truro a 36th-minute lead, but Charlee Hughes equalised in first-half stoppage time, scoring a penalty given for handball. But Harvey – who signed a new contract earlier this season – headed into the top corner with 11 minutes left to secure a first win in three games and send Truro sixth in National League South. “We should have gone in two or three up, and then for some reason he gave them a penalty, which shouldn’t have been, and then you’re just worried that one or two decisions are going to go against us,” Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “But the lads have kept going and Tyler has come up with the goods again, a great header, so I’m really pleased, it gets us back to winning ways.” The goal was Harvey’s seventh in the league this season and came less than a month after agreeing a new ‘multi-year’ deal. “He does it time and time again, and if we keep playing the balls in there he’ll score,” added Askey. “He missed a sitter first half, but like all good strikers he keeps getting in there, keeps creating chances. But I thought we played some good stuff and we created a lot of chances.” BBC Sport

Truro City were ‘fantastic’ as they inflicted a first loss of the season on National League South leaders Hemel Hempstead Town. Jaze Kabia’s 13th-minute goal secured a 1-0 win for the Tinners, who moved up to fifth place in the table. “It’s an absolutely fantastic victory for us,” assistant manager Stewart Yetton told BBC Radio Cornwall. “Hemel came here today in great form – they’ve not lost all season. I think they’ve not conceded a goal away from home as well, so we knew it was going to be a tough game.” Truro took advantage of a strong wind in their favour in the first period and defended well after the break as Hemel became just the second side this season not to score against City. “It is a great win and a few of the fans have said after ‘You’ve beaten top of the league, it’s a great result,” added Yetton. “But you know it’s still very early in the season, so we treat that victory like we’ve treated every other victory – and any win in this league’s a good victory. So it’s not so much of a big statement win for us in the changing room, but I suppose on the face of it does look like that.” BBC Sport

Truro City moved into second place in National League South after a 3-0 win over Hampton & Richmond. Connor Riley-Lowe completed the win with a header 14 minutes from full-time as City moved three points behind leaders Farnborough with a game in hand – the two sides will meet in Hampshire on Tuesday. “Going into October we looked at the fixtures and thought it’s going to be a really tough one,” Truro City boss John Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “If we can come out of October and still be in and around then it will have been a good month, so it’s pleasing how things are going at the moment. We can’t take our foot off the pedal, we’ve got to keep going – there will be some bumps in the road I’m sure, but so long as the players keep the attitude that they’ve got then we’ll be fine.” BBC Sport

Truro City manager John Askey has hailed the ‘grit and determination’ of his side as they drew 1-1 at National League South leaders Farnborough with nine men. Tyler Harvey’s ninth minute free-kick had given Askey’s side the lead, but despite pressure from the home side Truro held their own. But Billy Palfrey was sent off for a second yellow card after 67 minutes before skipper Connor Riley-Lowe followed him straight down the tunnel after protesting to the referee about the decision. Despite a number of good saves from Dan Lavercombe, Farnborough finally equalised when Taylor Clark’s deflected effort beat the Truro keeper with seven minutes to go. The point sees Truro drop to fourth place in the table while Farnborough are two points clear at the top having played a game more than the rest of the top four. “You can’t ask any more of any team,” Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “For us to come away with a draw, even the goal that they scored was a deflection – I couldn’t be more pleased with how the lads have performed. They showed real grit and determination, as they have done throughout the season. If we keep doing that, then obviously we’ll be where we want to be. Before the game we would probably have settled for a point, but under the circumstances it was a fantastic effort.” But Askey was unhappy with the manner in which his side were reduced to nine men. It led to the Tinners having to play with nobody up front as they tried in vain to hold out for a win. “The one (yellow card) for Bill is a little bit harsh, I can see why he has given it,” he said. “Why he’s given Connor a second yellow card for just asking why he’s sent him off, and not even swore at him, and then he said to him after ‘I didn’t realise you’re on a yellow card, but I’ve got to send you off’, that’s just crazy. I think he lost control of the game, you could see during the first half that he was starting to lose control and that’s what happens. He felt a bit of pressure because their crowd were getting riled up and he couldn’t handle it I’m afraid.” BBC Sport

Truro City manager John Askey says the late 2-1 win over Tonbridge Angels demonstrated how resilient his side are. Tyler Harvey had given the Tinners a 40th-minute lead from the penalty spot, only for Crossley Lema to equalise for the Kent side six minutes after the break. But substitute Jaze Kabia broke away in the third minute of stoppage time before calmly slotting home the winner. The three points moved Truro up to third place in National League South, just a point off leaders Weston-super-Mare and second-placed Farnborough. City are now unbeaten in five games – winning four and drawing 1-1 at Farnborough on Tuesday despite being reduced to nine men. “Considering we played with nine men on Tuesday, to get a result again on Saturday and do it last minute just shows how resilient they are,” Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “It was a really good goal that we scored at the end and it’s just really pleasing to send everybody home happy.” He added: “We looked solid. I was disappointed with the goal that we conceded, it should have been defended better. But overall again with everything taken into consideration it was another good team performance.” BBC Sport

Truro City manager John Askey was unhappy with a decision that led to Slough Town’s equaliser in his side’s 1-1 draw in National League South. After a goalless first half Will Dean played in substitute Jaze Kabia to open the scoring after 65 minutes. Kabia had only been on the field two minutes before finishing well from inside the box for his eighth goal of the season. But Slough levelled 11 minutes later when Slavi Spasov blasted in from a corner which Askey felt should never have been given. “We’ve gone one up and I thought we we’re just going to see the game out, and again a decision by the official has inadvertently cost us,” he told BBC Radio Cornwall. “Their lad’s gone to cross the ball, crossed it out of play and he’s given them a corner for some strange reason and they score from the corner. I know we’ve got to still defend it, but it’s things like that can cost you. So it is three points lost really, although I think teams will come here and find it hard.” The draw moves Truro up to second place in the table, a point off leaders Eastbourne Borough with a game in hand. Truro City boss John Askey says his side’s 2-1 victory at 10-man Welling United demonstrated their winning mentality. Zain Walker put the hosts in front midway through the first half, but Jaze Kabia equalised seven minutes later as he pounced on a loose ball from Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain’s long throw. Tom Harrison headed in Kabia’s floated cross seven minutes later to secure the victory. Dave Winfield was sent off for a second booking early in the second half as the hosts played out the game with 10 men. “I think it showed that they’re used to winning,” Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “So when we went a goal behind we didn’t panic, we just kept doing what we’ve been doing for the last few weeks and luckily today it’s gone for us.” The win kept Truro second in National League South – they are level on points with new leaders Weston-super-Mare who have a game in hand and a superior goal difference. Former leaders Eastbourne Borough drop to third, but like Truro have 31 points – they have played one game more and are nine goals worse off compared to the Cornish side. “All the chances that were created were by us,” Askey added. “The goal that they scored was a wicked deflection, I think it was going out for a corner and then it’s hit Will and gone in. But the players have done really well to respond from going 1-0 down, and to come back in the nature that they did shows a lot of character again. Truro City manager John Askey says his side looked “weary” in their 1-0 loss at Boreham Wood in National League South. Charles Clayden’s close-range finish three minutes after the interval was enough to earn the hosts all three points. Andrew Neal came close to equalising for the Cornish side, but drew a fine save from Boreham Wood goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore. The defeat ended an eight-game unbeaten run for Askey’s side, who stay second in the table but are now three points off leaders Weston-super-Mare, who have a game in hand. “We’ve come here to one of the biggest spenders in the league and it’s probably one of those games where we could have done with a breather in between the last few games,” Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “We needed to play better when we were on the ball, we gave the ball away too cheaply,” the Truro boss added. “The commitment was there, everybody had a real go, but we just didn’t have enough tonight and one or two looked a little bit weary. We needed a break before we played them. We’d spoken to the league but they forced us to play tonight. It was just one of those that got away from us.” BBC Sport

Truro City scored twice in a minute to come from a goal down to beat Chesham United 2-1 in a rain-delayed National League South clash. A heavy downpour that ended just an hour before kick-off led to the game being delayed by 45 minutes as work was done to make the pitch playable. As Storm Bert, which has affected much of the UK, continued to affect the game Connor Stevens gave Chesham a 41st-minute lead from the edge of the box. Nathan Minhas almost doubled the lead soon after the break, but Dan Lavercombe did well to tip his effort onto the crossbar. Jaze Kabia levelled with 15 minutes to go before Tyler Harvey curled in the winner seconds later. The Tinners now have a two-week break before their next game as they are no longer in the FA Trophy. “I think the boys were magnificent, dare I say probably one of our best away performances of the season,” Yetton told BBC Radio Cornwall. “We probably had the better chances as well, I’m slightly disappointed not to get all three points. But we’d have snapped your hand off for a point pre-game – one of the top sides in the league with probably the biggest budget, so it’s no small feat coming here and getting a point.” City are a point clear of second-placed Weston-super-Mare and third-placed Torquay United, with Dorking three points behind in sixth in a congested top end of the table. “We’re 20 games in, you can quite easily go on a little bit of a bad run and be way out of it,” Yetton added. “So it’s a testament to the lads we have in the changing room because they’re coming into games like this now and we’re not really having much fear and they’re delivering good performances. We looked like a really solid, strong side there, really difficult to break down and I suppose we have come a long way to be coming here and getting a point and being disappointed not to get all three.” BBC Sport

Truro City captain Connor Riley-Lowe said his side were “second best” as they lost 2-0 at home to Maidstone United. The Tinners, who were top of National League South going into the game, dropped to fourth place after wins for Torquay United and Boreham Wood. Antony Papadopoulos gave Maidstone a 23rd-minute lead before Aaron Blair made the game safe 18 minutes from full-time. The result was only the second loss in Truro’s last 13 league matches. “I think we were second best to be fair to Maidstone,” Riley-Lowe told BBC Radio Cornwall. “They played the conditions better, I think first half they were picking up a lot more second balls, picking up a lot more territory and had us under a lot of pressure. I did feel that if we got in at half-time at 0-0 or 1-0, the second half with the wind with us, I thought we might have come on strong. But we never really got going second half to be fair and give them credit as well, they were good at slowing the game down and breaking it down. I don’t think we were at the races today. It was just one of those games.” BBC Sport

Will Dean’s winner in the fourth minute of stoppage time saw Truro City win 2-1 at St Albans and move up to second place in National League South. Zane Banton had given the hosts the lead three minutes into the second half. Truro looked to be on course for back-to-back losses having been beaten by Maidstone United last week, but substitute Andrew Neal flicked home a 79th-minute corner two minutes after coming on. Dean had a shot cleared off the line 10 minutes later before he fired in left-footed from the edge of the box deep in stoppage time. “We have played better, but I thought again the players when we went a goal behind rolled their sleeves up,” Truro manager John Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “We could have had more goals, but you just thought it was going to be one of those days. Then obviously Rocky’s (Neal) come on and I don’t know how it managed to go in, it seemed to go a mile into the air and then drop into the back stick and we were just pushing them for a second and Will Dean’s come up with a fantastic goal at the end.” BBC Sport

Truro City assistant manager Stewart Yetton has praised his side’s fitness as they scored a stoppage time goal to earn a 1-1 draw with Weston-super-Mare. Reuben Reid had given Weston a 35th-minute lead despite Truro being unhappy with what they felt was a handball in the build up. City had a first-half penalty appeal turned down and twice went close through Jaze Kabia before Billy Palfrey equalised in the third minute of stoppage time. The point sees the Tinners drop from second place to fourth in National League South, two points off leaders Torquay United who they visit on New Year’s Day. “The boys work really hard at training and away from the football club, and I think it shows,” Yetton told BBC Radio Cornwall. “We’ve scored so many late goals now, so that’s a testament to them and their attitude to never say never and get things at the end of games.” He added: “We certainly felt we deserved something from the game. I don’t think Dan Lavercombe was tested too much – we’re very disappointed with the goal because we were attacking, there’s a blatant handball from their lad and the referee waves play on.” BBC Sport

Torquay United boss Paul Wotton said his side were “magnificent” as they beat fellow National League South high-fliers Truro City 1-0. Jordan Young’s impressive goal in the 80th minute was enough to seal a game which saw the visitors impress against the league-leading Gulls. Torquay had to play out the final few minutes with 10 men after Jordan Thomas was sent off after a coming together with an opposing player. The win keeps Torquay a point clear at the top of the table ahead of Saturday’s FA Trophy trip to Worthing and sees them five points ahead of fifth-placed Truro. “It’s a tremendous result, a fantastic result,” Wotton told BBC Radio Devon. “Up until the sending off I thought we were comfortable and we were good, and then after the sending off I just thought we were magnificent. I thought we were absolutely magnificent. Truro City will be right up there at the end of the season. I know that because eight of their starting 11 I’ve coached and I’ve had. I know what they are, they play the same shape, they’re good at it, they’ve got top players and you can see why they’re up there and you can see why they’ve got an amazing away record and you can see why they score so many last-minute goals, because they’re relentless. I think it’s probably the best clean sheet of the season. We had endeavour, we had passion, we had spirit, togetherness. All in all, thrilled with the result.” BBC Sport

Truro City manager John Askey has praised his players as they scored a stoppage time winner to beat Hornchurch 2-1 in National League South. In a game played in freezing conditions Billy Palfrey gave City a 1-0 lead after 82 minutes as he curled in an effort after Dominic Johnson-Fisher’s cross was not properly cleared. But a defensive mix-up saw Darren McQueen equalise in the first minute of stoppage time, only for Andrew Neal to get Truro’s winner two minutes later. The substitute fired in from a tight angle after Connor Riley-Lowe’s cross fell to the striker in the box as he scored for the second time in Truro’s last four games. The victory saw Truro move up to fourth place in National League South, leapfrogging Worthing, who beat league leaders Torquay United 5-1 in the FA Trophy. The Tinners are just two points behind the Devon side having played a game more. “I thought if anybody was going to win it was ourselves,” Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “We missed one or two chances, the conditions were atrocious, but I thought we played them better. It would have been really disappointing if we hadn’t won that game, especially being one up with a few minutes to go. But again the players never surprise us, they keep coming up with these late winners and full credit to them again, it was a tremendous effort.” BBC Sport

Truro City earned a “good point” as they drew 0-0 at fellow National League South high-fliers Eastbourne Borough. Tom Harrison headed against the post and put another header just wide as the Tinners shaded the first period, which also saw Dominic Johnson-Fisher go close. Eastbourne had the better of the second period but neither side could find a breakthrough. Both sides drop a place, with Truro now fifth and Eastbourne sixth after Dorking Wanderers went above them following a 3-2 win at Weymouth. “I think it’s a good point, I think it’s a fair point,” Truro City coach Matt Godfree said. Godfree was in charge of the side from the dugout with fellow coach Ben Adelsbury as manager John Askey and his assistant Stewart Yetton served a touchline ban. “Not many come here can get any points so we’d have taken it before the game for sure,” he told BBC Radio Cornwall. “You win your home games in our position and you get something away from home, and that’s exactly what we’re going to be aiming to do over the next three games.” BBC Sport

Truro City manager John Askey praised the determination of his side as they came from a goal down to beat struggling Aveley 2-1 in National League South. Brooklyn Kabongolo headed Aveley in front after an hour, but Sam Sanders replied two minutes later as he got on the end of a Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain throw. Tom Harrison got the winner in the 74th minute as he headed in another long throw from Oxlade-Chamberlain as Truro moved up to third place on goal difference. “It was tough today. The pitch is very bobbly at the moment and nobody really looked comfortable on the ball,” Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “But we’ve kept at it, gone a goal behind and full credit to the players for showing guts and determination and getting the win.” The game was the first in a run of fixtures against sides below the Tinners in the table. They are only two points off leaders Torquay United and level with second-placed Boreham Wood, although the Cornish club has played more games than the sides above them. “I think it’s the most important time now,” Askey added. “We’ve got one or two games coming up that on paper are very winnable, and if we can in the next three or four games get ahead of steam then it’ll set us up nicely and push us up the table. One or two teams at the top have come unstuck a little bit, and that will happen, but we’ve just got to concentrate on ourselves now and hopefully we play better than what we’ve played today. But as long as we keep winning, that’s the main thing.” BBC Sport

John Askey says he is unhappy with his side’s performance in their 3-0 loss at Hemel Hempstead. Brandon Barzey scored two first-half goals for the hosts before Joe White added a third a minute from full time. The loss sees Truro drop to seventh place in National League South – although the top seven sides are all covered by just three points in an exciting title race. “It’s disappointing. We’ve not been at it today,” City manager Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “The goals that we conceded were poor from our point of view, we allowed crosses to come in and then not dealt with them. We had opportunities to score, not taken them, so overall it’s obviously a very disappointing day.” The loss was just a third in 11 league games for the Tinners who have won 14 of their 28 matches in the sixth tier. “It’s the first time really that we’ve probably been well beaten,” added Askey. “So we have to pick ourselves up, we’ve got 18 games to go. It’s the back-end of the season, we’ve got to now start pushing if we want to achieve anything this season. In previous games when we’ve had a defeat the players have reacted well. What you have to make sure is that one defeat doesn’t become two, doesn’t become three.” BBC Sport

Truro City did not create enough chances in their 0-0 draw with Bath City, according to assistant manager Stewart Yetton. The Tinners failed to score for the third time in four matches and remain seventh in National League South. Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain, Andrew Neal and Jaze Kabia all had opportunities, but none of them could find the back of the net. The draw came a week after a disappointing 3-0 loss at Hemel Hempstead. “I’m a little bit disappointed we didn’t get all three points, but I’m not sure we carved out enough clear-cut chances throughout the course of the game to maybe get that goal,” Yetton told BBC Radio Cornwall. “We never looked like conceding, that’s a big positive, we looked really solid again, so I’m happy with that. We’ll just go back on the training ground and work a little bit more on being able to fashion some more chances for us.” BBC Sport

Truro City manager John Askey says he saw some of his players’ best-ever performances in their 3-1 win at Hampton and Richmond. The Tinners ended a three-game scoring drought away from home to consolidate National League South’s final play-off place. The win sees seventh-placed Truro go eight points clear of ninth-placed Hampton and six behind leaders Dorking Wanderers. Tom Harrison glanced a dominate Truro ahead after 25 minutes before new loan signing Luke Jephcott converted Jaze Kabia’s 56th-minute cross to double the lead. Hampton had Alex Wall sent off for his reaction after he had given away a penalty with 15 minutes to go and Kabia converted from 12 yards. Alfie Williams scored a consolation for the hosts with four minutes left as Truro won away for the first time since 21 December. “I think we looked really strong today, there was a lot of really good performances,” Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “Some players I thought played the best football I’ve seen them play since I’ve been here. We looked strong against a good side and we just basically stopped them playing and dominated the game from start to finish.” Askey added: “I’m obviously disappointed with the goal we conceded, which was just sloppy, but to come here and put a performance on like that when there was so much on it, because it’s like getting six points. It keeps them a big distance away from us now and there’s one or two teams at the top that lost so we’ve got to keep going. If we put performances like that in then we’re going to win more games than we will lose.” The goal for Jephcott was his first in senior football since April 2023 as the former Plymouth Argyle forward began his loan from Newport County. Askey says he was pleased with how Jephcott fared, having not started a game since 29 December. “First half you could tell he’d not played for a little bit, but I think the longer the game went on, even before the goal, you could see that he was starting to find his feet. To score a goal like he’s done today just shows that he’s got good quality and he is only going to get better. We’ve got good competition now in most positions so it’s really pleasing.” BBC Sport

Truro City conceded late on to draw 1-1 at home to mid-table Farnborough in National League South. The Tinners took a 41st-minute lead when Jaze Kabia finished well for his 13th goal of the season. Truro failed to convert a number of second-half chances and were made to pay when Jonny Stuttle scored the equaliser from close range. The point keeps Truro in seventh place, occupying the final play-off spot. They are a point off fifth-placed Boreham Wood, one more further behind fourth-placed Torquay and five behind second-placed Worthing. “You always want to press that advantage home and get the three points, so we will certainly look at that as probably two points that we let slip away,” assistant manager Stewart Yetton told BBC Radio Cornwall. “We’ll try not to dwell on that too long and learn from the mistakes we made and go again on Saturday.” He added: “When you’ve got that lead you’re disappointed when you can’t press it home or hang on to that lead. We felt we made a mistake for the goal. They’ll think that they’ve maybe worked it well – we think we’ve missed two opportunities to clear the ball.” BBC Sport

Truro City manager John Askey says his side are not relying on other teams’ results after maintaining their play-off bid with a 1-0 win at Tonbridge Angels on Saturday. Defender Will Dean scored the only goal of the game in the 17th minute to confirm Truro’s second consecutive away victory, bolstering the Cornwall club’s hopes of remaining in the National League South play-off positions as they sit sixth. “It’s in our hands,” said former Shrewsbury and Port Vale boss Askey. “We’re not relying on other people to lose, to stay in the play-offs. It’s down to us which is a nice position to be in. We’ve got about 14 games to go, so we’ve got to keep our heads, keep working hard and hopefully we’ll get to where we want to be.” Truro’s recent spike in away form has made up for their three consecutive home draws, most recently against mid-table Farnborough. Askey, 60, pointed to strong winds on the south-west coast affecting his side’s football but believes Truro’s away performances have given the players “confidence”. “It’s been difficult at home,” he added. “The wind doesn’t help us on the pitch at the moment, so hopefully we can get the pitch right for next Saturday and we can get the ball down and play a little bit more which has been difficult at home for about six or seven weeks. The players take confidence, I don’t think it matters who we play. It’s about us, our performances and if we do that, then we’ve got a great chance whoever we play.” Truro next face 14th-placed Slough Town at home on Saturday. BBC Sport

Skipper Connor Riley-Lowe opened the scoring in the sixth minute as he got on the end of a flick-on from Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain. Truro had chances to increase their lead and finally took one when Oxlade-Chamberlain headed in the second goal 14 minutes from full-time. “It was a professional performance to go on and get the second goal,” Yetton told BBC Radio Cornwall. “It probably should have been a bit more comfortable than it was. We probably missed three or four really good opportunities to kill the game, to put it to bed really early. Truro City remain fifth in National League South after a 1-1 draw at home to Weymouth. The Tinners started well as Tyler Harvey converted a seventh-minute penalty after Yassine En-Neyah had been fouled in the box. Charlie Rowan almost levelled with a header after an hour, while Harvey went close again soon after before Malachi Linton got Weymouth’s equaliser with 21 minutes left. Truro tried to find a winner as Palfrey and Harvey both went close in the dying stages, but the Terras held on. Dominic Johnson-Fisher made it 3-0 three minutes from half-time before Luke Jephcott scored for the second time since joining on loan to make it 4-0 midway through the second half. Michael Weiss got a consolation for the hosts with three minutes to go as Truro consolidated fifth place in National League South. They are two points off second-placed Eastbourne Borough with two games in hand and a further three points behind leaders Dorking Wanderers. “We couldn’t have started any better,” Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “It’s the worst pitch I’ve seen for a long time, but we’ve dealt with the conditions and gave a really good performance. A lot of individual performances were really good so I can’t be any more pleased. Every time we went forward we looked as though we were going to create something or score and that was the case. Truro City manager John Askey says his side should focus on securing automatic promotion after beating fellow National League South high-fliers Boreham Wood 2-1. The win moved the Tinners into third place in the table, just two points behind leaders Dorking Wanderers, ahead of a run of five games against sides in the bottom half of the table. Truro had two strong penalty claims waved away in a goalless first half before Luke Jephcott gave them a 64th-minute lead. The Newport County loanee finished well after good work by Dominic Johnson-Fisher for his second goal in as many games. The Wood upped the pressure and Jaze Kabia’s crucial second goal came with six minutes left, only for Chris Bush to pull one back two minutes later. But City held on despite seven minutes of stoppage time to seal a crucial win. Askey’s side have now gone eight games unbeaten, including four wins from their last five, and have leapfrogged Boreham Wood, who drop to fifth place. “Before the game we were looking at it and thinking it’s great if we can win, then you stop worrying about getting in the play-offs, you start thinking more about trying to get automatic promotion, and I think that’s what players have got to do,” Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “I thought the first goal we scored was a fantastic finish, a well-worked goal and then we get a second you think ‘we’ve got to see it out’. With them getting the result they got on Saturday – coming back from two goals down to draw 2-2 – then you think ‘the same thing’s not going to happen tonight’, because I thought up to them getting that goal we dominated the second half, they had a lot of the ball, but rarely troubled us. It was just what we needed after the result on Saturday (a 4-1 win at Chesham). To follow it up with another win, especially at home, it was perfect.” BBC Sport

Truro City consolidated third place in National League South after a 3-2 win over 10-man Welling United. Tinners’ skipper Connor Riley-Lowe got his side off to the perfect start as he scored after just two minutes. Dominic Johnson-Fisher and Tyler Harvey almost doubled the lead before Deon Moore levelled against the run of play after 32 minutes. Welling’s chances got slimmer when Dave Winfield was sent off for a second booking eight minutes after the interval and Truro top-scorer Harvey headed his side ahead with 20 minutes to go. Harvey made it 3-1 15 minutes later as he blasted home from Andrew Neal’s pass before Ricardo Di Trolio’s stoppage-time goal set up a nervous finish. But Truro held on to extend their unbeaten run to nine matches as they drew level with former leaders Dorking Wanderers and went a point behind new leaders Worthing. “I think at the end we made it a little bit too much like hard work for ourselves,” Truro City assistant manager Stewart Yetton told BBC Radio Cornwall. “Conceding a goal at the end and then you invite a little bit of pressure, even with 10 men, but we saw the game out well. When you get to the last 10 games of the season it’s just about getting three points on the board. There are a few things we know we could have done better and we spoke about that after, but all in all we’ll take the positives of the three points.” BBC Sport

Truro City moved up to second place in National League South with a 3-0 win at mid-table Chippenham Town. The Tinner, who are now on a four-game winning streak, have lost just once in their last 14 and are just a point behind leaders Worthing having played one extra match. Truro blew Chippenham away with three goals in a nine-minute period soon after half-time. Top scorer Tyler Harvey gave them a 52nd-minute lead when he curled home a free-kick from the edge of the box. He added his 21st of the season two minutes later when he was first to react after Connor Riley-Lowe’s shot had been saved by home goalkeeper Josey Casa-Grande. Luke Jephcott scored his third goal in four games soon after with a superb lob over Casa-Grande. City face relegation-battling Enfield Town and Salisbury City in their next two matches before travelling to mid-table Chelmsford City on 29 March and then Worthing on 5 April. “I’m really pleased again,” Truro manager John Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “I thought we were a bit sloppy to start off with – could possibly have been 2-0 down if it wasn’t for Dan Lavercombe who pulled off a couple off good saves, and some last minute tackles. But after the first 20 minutes when we got to grips with how they were playing I thought there was only one team in it, especially in the second half.” BBC Sport

Truro City boss John Askey says his side’s late 3-2 loss at struggling Enfield Town was ‘really disappointing’. The Tinners conceded twice in the final minutes of second-half stoppage time as they saw victory slip away from them against the side fifth-from-bottom. Truro stay in second place in National League South despite the loss, but are now four points behind leaders Worthing, who have a game in hand. Tyler Harvey converted a ninth-minute penalty after he had been fouled in the box. And Truro’s top scorer made it 2-0 with a second spot-kick following a foul on Luke Jephcott after 40 minutes. Harry Sidwell pulled a goal back for Enfield five minutes into the second half before Jephcott hit the post late on in the game. But Enfield twice struck through Lewis Knight in stoppage time – his first goal came in the fifth additional minute before the winner two minutes later. The loss ended a 10-game unbeaten run that had seen City win six games in seven. “With so little time to go you should see the game out,” Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “But it was one of those days where anything can happen, it’s probably the worst conditions you could possibly play in, you couldn’t play, so we’d done well to come in at half time with two goals. But with so little time to go you should see it out and we haven’t, which is really disappointing. I can’t be too hard on the players, they gave everything again and for whatever reason we’ve ended up conceding two goals.” BBC Sport

Truro City manager John Askey says it is “all to play for” in the National League South title race after his side’s 1-0 win over Salisbury. The victory, coupled with a 2-0 loss for leaders Worthing at relegation-threatened Welling United, means second-placed City are a point off the top having played one game more than Worthing. Tyler Harvey’s penalty seven minutes before half-time proved to be the difference between the sides after Connor Riley-Lowe had been fouled in the box. Truro had chances to increase their lead but saw the game out as Salisbury had Josh Hedges sent off for a second booking shortly before full time. “We never really came under threat. I think once we got the goal you’re hoping that we’re going to get two or three,” Truro boss John Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “It didn’t come about, but we never really looked as though we were going to concede after scoring. At this time of the season it doesn’t matter how you get a win, and we’re just a point behind the leaders and it’s all to play for again.” Harvey’s goal was his 24th of the season and his seventh in the last four games. They have proved crucial to City’s run of five wins in six matches, keeping the Cornish side a point clear of third-placed Eastbourne Borough in the congested top end of the table as just three points separates the top five sides. “Over the Christmas period he had a little bit of a barren spell and he probably wasn’t playing as well as we’ve been used to over that period,” Askey said, of his leading marksman. “But probably this last four weeks he’s come to the fore again and he makes a huge difference to us. But there’s been a lot of good performances throughout the season from a lot of players, so it’s not just Tyler’s goals, everybody else is doing their bit as well.” BBC Sport

Truro City manager John Askey was left frustrated as his title-chasing side drew 0-0 at 10-man Chelmsford City in National League South. The draw saw the Tinners drop three points behind leaders Worthing – who they face next week. And they slip to third place on goal difference after Dorking Wanderers’ win over fifth-placed Eastbourne Borough. Dorking, Truro and Torquay United all have 77 points with five games to play with Eastbourne two points further back. Chelmsford almost took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Ruaridh Donaldson hit the bar. The hosts had Arthur Penney sent off for bringing down Jaze Kabia on the edge of the box and denying a goalscoring opportunity three minutes into the second half. But despite the advantage Truro could not find a breakthrough despite Kabia and Yassine En-Neyah having penalty appeals turned down. “I thought both of them were penalties to be honest,” Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “It wasn’t only the penalty decision that he didn’t give, he started to sway towards them because he’d sent somebody off. But it was the right decision to send him off, he can’t then try and level it up because he’s sent somebody off. You might say ‘you should come away and score from open play’, but if you’re getting fetched up when you’re in front of goal and about to shoot, decisions like that at this time of the season can cost you. It is still in our hands and it’s a great position to be in at this time of the season, and we just get over this now. I’m not disappointed with the players’ effort and how they played, sometimes things don’t quite go for you in certain games.” BBC Sport

Truro City went top of National League South after winning 2-1 at former leaders Worthing. The victory sees the Tinners go above Worthing on goal difference, with both sides on 80 points with four games to play. Dorking Wanderers are third, two points behind, after conceding a late goal in a 1-1 draw at St Albans City. Will Dean gave Truro the perfect start as he fired home after Worthing failed to deal with Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain’s third-minute long throw. Jaze Kabia had a second goal disallowed a minute later for offside, before Nick Wheeler struck the Truro bar in the eighth minute. Dan Lavercombe did well to stop chances from Worthing’s Temi Babalola before the Tinners keeper brought the forward down at the end of the first half and Danny Cashman converted the resulting penalty. But Truro retook the lead midway through the second half as Yassine En-Neyah flicked the ball forward and Luke Jephcott got in behind the defence and fired in his fifth goal since joining City on loan. Truro held on despite Worthing pressure, as Jack Spong saw a header land on the roof of the net while Lavercombe pulled off a superb 90th-minute save to deny Babalola a second equaliser. “It was vital that we got a result today to stay in it,” Truro City manager John Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall. “They’ve worked really hard, the players, again today and you can’t ask any more of them. It was a dubious decision that gave them a goal, I thought we were up against it with the refereeing today and we’ve gone and pulled it out of the bag. Results have gone for us as well, so it couldn’t have ended up a better day. The win puts Truro in the driving seat to win the National League South title. They face bottom half sides Hornchurch and St Albans, as well as eighth-placed Weston-super-Mare and fifth-placed Torquay United on Good Friday in their run-in. “There was a feeling that they’d always get more nervy than us,” Askey added of Worthing. “Obviously, they’re in top position and want to stay there, they also knew that if they got a draw they would still be in a decent position. So we knew we’d got to try and win the game and the lads have worked really hard. I wouldn’t say we were great, we rode our luck at times, but it doesn’t make any difference at this time of the season. When you put the effort the players put in they deserve to get three points.” BBC Sport

Truro City forward Jaze Kabia’s performance was hailed as “fantastic” after his hat-trick saw the Tinners come back to win 3-1 at Hornchurch and stay top of National League South. The win keeps Truro ahead of second-placed Worthing on goal difference as the top four sides all won. Three points separate Truro from fourth-placed Torquay, who they host on Good Friday, 19 April. Having gone behind to Tom Wright’s 18th-minute goal and seen Dan Lavercombe pull off a couple good saves to keep Truro in it, Kabia came to the rescue. The Irish striker blasted into the top corner to level the game nine minutes after half-time. Billy Palfrey’s superb goal-line clearance from an indirect free-kick after a back-pass kept Truro in it before Kabia’s 66th-minute lob put City 2-1 up. He completed his hat-trick four minutes later to secure three more vital points. “All three finishes are fantastic. He’s got that in the locker, he’s an unbelievable finisher,” Truro City assistant manager Stewart Yetton told BBC Radio Cornwall. “It hasn’t really gone for him in the last run of games, but they were big moments and big finishes and we needed that. I thought he was really good second half, and that’s what you need sometimes, you need your big players to step up and that’s what he’s done.” The win also guaranteed Truro a place in the play-offs, but they will be aiming for the automatic promotion place awarded to the league champions. The victory kept the title in Truro’s hands, with their superior goal difference meaning should they win their three remaining matches, they will in all likelihood be crowned National League South champions. “We’ve still got three really tough games – Torquay’s going to be huge, Weston away is never easy and St Albans are down there fighting for their lives, so it would be a very big ask to think you’re going to go and win three games,” Yetton added. “So we take one game at a time. My friend sent me a photo on my phone and we were fourth at one point, so quite quickly it can turn around and you can find yourself first one minute, you could end up fourth within 90 minutes, so we don’t look too far beyond the next game. I think by next Monday evening we might have a clearer picture of where we’re really at.” BBC Sport

Torquay United kept their National League South title hopes alive as they won 1-0 at top-of-the-table Truro City. Matt Jay’s second-half strike was enough for the Gulls who move up to third in the table with two games to play. They are now a point off new leaders Worthing and level on points with Truro, who drop to second place. Just two points separate the top five sides in the league – 10-man Worthing drew 1-1 with Eastbourne Borough, who drop to fifth after Dorking Wanderers were 4-2 winners over Hampton and Richmond. In difficult conditions neither side could break the deadlock before the interval as Luke Jephcott and Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain had chances for the hosts while Jay twice went close for the Gulls. Truro started the second period well, but it was Torquay who had the first decent chance after an hour – Ryan Law’s mistake let in Jordan Young, but he and Cody Cooke got in each other’s way and the opportunity went begging. A great challenge from Jordan Dyer denied Truro’s Jaze Kabia soon after before Torquay took a 65th-minute lead in front of a record crowd of 3,306 at the Truro Community Stadium. Jay showed excellent footwork on the edge of the area before the former Exeter City player curled a left-footed effort into the top corner. Cooke blasted over from close range seven minutes later before Truro top-scorer Tyler Harvey saw a good chance saved by James Hamon with nine minutes to go. Truro went close from a stoppage-time corner but they could not find a way past their former goalkeeper Hamon, as the Cornish side lost for just the second time in 16 games. Truro City manager John Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall “It’s obviously very disappointing. We’ve played a lot better than that and we probably got what we deserved today. We didn’t create many chances, I think we created probably one chance. We just huffed and puffed and allowed Torquay too much time on the ball on a couple of occasions and they’ve taken one of them. It’s disappointing as we had so many supporters here and if we’d have got a result today we’d have been in a great position because results on the whole have been decent for us.” Torquay United manager Paul Wotton told BBC Radio Devon “It’s three points away from home against the league leaders before the game. I thought first half was really cagey, really nervous, I thought we were a bit edgy and sloppy on the ball. At half-time it was just a case of saying to the boys, ‘calm down, if we lose we’ve got a chance of the play-offs. We had to play with the positivity of trying to win, rather than the fear of losing, and I think second-half we did that. The boys are calm. The mad thing is that today, win, lose or draw, it wouldn’t have defined anything because we’re having a great season anyway.” BBC Sport

Truro City won the National League South title after beating St Albans City 5-2 at the Truro Community Stadium. The victory means Truro become the first club ever from Cornwall to win promotion to the National League. Any side in the top six could have won the title going into the final round of matches, with Truro heading into the weekend top on goal difference from nearest neighbours Torquay United. Torquay won 4-1 at mid-table Hemel Hempstead while the rest of the top six all won too – but it mattered not as Truro got the victory they needed to claim the title. Truro end the campaign on 89 points, level on points with Torquay but winning the title by virtue of having a better goal difference of just two goals. All of the top six sides won their matches in the final round of games meaning they all end the day in the position they started. The win also meant that St Albans finished the campaign in the final relegation place and will drop to the seventh tier of English football next season. BBC Sport
