Around the World

Most of us know that Truro City Football Club has fans all over England such as the Baynham’s from Bedworth, Ivor Marshall from High Wycombe and the Clarke’s from Sutton to name but a few but did you realise that Truro City has fans all over the world? Here I caught up with some of them to have a chat about why they’re fans of our non league footy team…

Iain Welsh

Fife, Scotland

Matt Hall “Why Truro City Football Club?”

Iain Welsh “I guess just because I’m a big football fan anyway and my wife and I have spent several holidays in Cornwall. It became a bit of a standing joke that whenever we were in Cornwall, Truro was playing away. Eventually we managed to get to a game (my one and only to date!), a few years ago. Hopefully we will get back to see Truro in Cornwall in the not too distant future. I should add that the game we saw was a 2-0 win against Hungerford Town (in 2016-2017 season), so we have a 100% record!”

MH “How long have you followed Truro?”

IW “Probably been looking out for their results for 20 years but with only going to one game in that time I don’t think I can really call myself a fan! The internet makes it much easier”

MH “What can you remember from that Hungerford game?”

IW “I remember the friendliness of everyone we spoke to that night and being able to get a pint in the ground was a bonus. Only way we can do that in senior grounds in Scotland is go to hospitality and even then we can’t take drinks into the stands. From that night Cody Cooke looked a cut above the rest and Tom McHale stood out too.”

Matt Hall “Why Truro?”

Prudence Cobb “My family’s earliest origin points to the Cornwall area so I had been researching clubs in the area to see who I might want to support. This was the same time I started getting into Football Manager and in that years version of the game we were in the National League South so the game had the official crest and everything. I’ve been hooked ever since by the love of following the club and getting to know the community of supporters – many of whom have become good friends.”
