With the Cadbury Heath side containing six Gloucestershire players Truro City expected to find things tough. But far from going under to the expected heavy defeat, they put up a great fight and deserved at least the chance of a replay. Early on the honours went to Cadbury Heath, with two goals coming in 16 minutes when ‘keeper Chippie Chapman failed to cut out crosses. Then Truro settled down and contained their opponents for the remainder of the half. In the 55th minute Dave Streat hammered home a Steve Van Evelingen pass to put the City back in the game, and Steve Richardson equalised from a Clive Webber cross. As the teams battled for supremacy, Truro had two “goals” disallowed and Cadbury Heath were twice foiled by the woodwork. A draw and replay seemed certain until the last minute, when Dave Neal’s miskicked clearance gave the home team the opening for their decisive goal. West Briton & Cornwall Advertiser
