Fine weather favoured the meeting of these teams at South Devon Place, Plymouth, on Saturday, in connection with the South Western Counties Championship. It will be remembered that owing to some slight friction between the English Association and the proprietors of the Western Morning News, who gave the cup, the final was postponed; hence the match on Saturday. On 9th October the teams will meet at Truro, and the team scoring the greater number of points for the both matches, will be declared winners of the cup for the 1902-03 season. Mr G. Jones, officiated as referee; and between 1,500 and 2,000 spectators assembled within the enclosure. West Briton & Cornwall Advertiser

On Friday these teams met to play the last of the two matches ordered by the Association so as to decide as to which team should hold the cup for the 1902-03 season. At the first match Green Waves won by three goals to one; and Friday’s match, therefore, was looked upon as the probable deciding game. The visitors were at full strength, whilst several changes took place in the home team. Considering the threatening weather, a large crowd witnessed the encounter, which resulted in a 5 to nil victory for Green Waves, who thus won the trophy. West Briton & Cornwall Advertiser
