Stewart David Yetton was born in Plymouth, England on 27th July 1985, Yetton joined Truro City in late 2005 while the club was playing in the South Western League. “I was asked my thoughts on Truro City’s legendary striker Stewart Yetton, well apart from being the best striker Truro City has ever had, he’s a player you would want in your dressing room and that’s why he’s still at the club today, a gentleman and an honest player on the pitch and gives 100% no matter what he does and I can say a true friend. And in my view why Truro City were so successful from 2005 onwards with the signing of Stewart Yetton from Tiverton Town.”

“Stewart ‘The Yetti’ Yetton is a true Truro City legend. Over the years he has been an ambassador for the club, Truro is in his blood, the all time record breaking goal scorer. Now as assistant manager to Paul Wotton, driving the current crop of Truro players forward on and off the pitch, he gets them motivated, also a joker I’m sure in the dressing rooms all over the country and now I class him as a very good friend of mine and I’m sure he loves me to bits for saying that, long live the Yetti!”

“Yettsy actually signed on the same day as me and was unveiled at the old Brookdale Hotel when it was still standing, although those days are gone, my fondest memories of playing for Truro are watching Stew score some amazing goals at every level we played at, he was instrumental in so many games and scored some very important goals for us along the way. I think we all knew that Stew was a lovable rogue and a Plymouth boy that was the changing room clown and brought everyone’s spirit up, a role model for a lot of younger players and a privilege for me personally to have played alongside him. I guess throughout my years of playing football I never played with anyone like Stew, who was a natural goal scorer, he just had the knack of being able to score goals from nothing but more importantly he would dig in and chase back and help the team defending when required, a true sign of a great player in my eyes. A True legend not only for Truro but for many of the clubs he played for!”

“Yettsy is a one-off!! He literally loves all sports but bleeds football. During my time at Truro, Yetts was part of our car school and Kev (Both Ends) Wills and I always looked forward to picking him and Marcus Martin up at Plymouth to see what they’d been up to! The banter was relentless and those 5/6hr round trips went so much quicker!! As a player Yettsy is quite simply the most natural goal scorer I have played with or against. He scores all types of goals from anywhere on the pitch and I think you could probably push him out on a pitch in his 80s in a wheelchair and he would still bag a last minute winner!!! I loved his confidence the most and he took great pleasure in reminding us during that successful Vase season that he was officially the highest scorer in any league in world football!!! Despite all of his personal achievements he is of the most genuine and passionate people I know – he always wants the best for his teammates and is the life and soul of any dressing room. A top goal scorer yes, but more importantly a brilliant human being. Love ya Yetts (Ps – You said £10 for this right?!)”

“The man is Truro through and through, most of the good times, the promotions, the Vase, he was involved in or he was being approached to re sign again and again, I always knew if his name was on the team sheet then his name would be on the goal scoring page, his work rate and endeavour all over the pitch, never giving defences peace but he had an ice cold notion that whenever a chance came to him, he never seem flustered or rushed, calmness, astute. Well done on a fantastic career.”

“It goes without saying his goal scoring record is very impressive and every club he has been to, he has become a fans favourite. My first impression of Stew was so ‘Yettsy’ I’ll share it with you. So I signed for Truro in 2007 and it was the famous year of winning the FA Vase. Previously, I had met with Webby, Lenny, Glynn and Kev to sign the contract and all mentioned the great squad Truro had and highlighted their promising striker Stew Yetton who was making an impression in the league. The first game I was involved in was against Elmore on a cold Tuesday night. Before the game, the lads in the changing room were very welcoming and friendly. I knew a number of the players from previous clubs but not all… It was around 15 mins before kick off and everyone was nearly ready when the door flew open. I remember turning round and seeing this guy bowl in with a smile on his face… This individual had straightened long hair which was all different lengths. He was wearing winkle picker shoes, black baggy trousers, an outrageous brown leather jacket and for some reason driving gloves! I wasn’t sure if he was a player or a door to door salesman. I think I whispered to someone who is this guy? They started laughing and said that’s Yettsy!!!… I also remember he came on the pitch for the last 10 mins of the game and scored a hat-trick and made it look so easy. I was lucky enough to spend many years with Stew and have set him up a number of times… He may need 3 or four chances to score a goal but you know he runs and tries to the very end. It goes without saying Stew is a born winner. He hates to lose in any game and has the inner motivation and humour to lift any dressing room. We have made some amazing memories which will always be brought up when we have our next reunion…”

“Stewart Yetton is essentially Mr Truro City Football Club. What he’s done for the club, the goals he’s scored, etc, it’s simply incredible. He’s brought so much joy to people’s faces on a Saturday afternoon. Having to pick a favourite moment of his in a Truro City shirt would be a tough one. There are just so many. The two that have always stuck out for me though is a goal against Curzon Ashton back in 2007, the FA Vase Semi-Final, 2nd leg. The atmosphere that day was incredible. Then perhaps more recent, was a goal he scored against Bath City I think it was. A Tuesday evening back in 2012. At the time, it was billed as potentially being Truro’s last ever football game, so much were the money woes at the time. It’s absolutely great to see him back at the club now. His character, his enthusiasm, his energy, it’s essentially what any football club needs. Hopefully we’ll see him and the rest of the club back in Cornwall soon!”

“The two things I remember about Yettsy is obviously his hair and second his unique talent of being in the right place at the right time. He would always take chances even when you sometimes thought why is he shooting from there? and then you would see it hit the back of the net! He was great to play with as he always made very intelligent runs and that was great for me as a wide player to try and service. I think the greatest compliment I could pay him is if he was in on goal you were already thinking that’s a goal.”

“Yetts was an unbelievable striker and still is now! I grew up watching the likes of Stewart Yetton, Jake Ash, Joe Broad etc in the glory days. When they were flying up the leagues and the infamous FA Vase win in 2007 which I went to watch. Seeing these guys in their peak was a pleasure and Yetts being a huge part of this. So clinical in front of goal and any half chance you knew he would create something. I also had the pleasure of playing under Yetts with Truro and it was a great learning curve for me. Great guy on and off the pitch.”

“Where do you even start when talking about Yettsy, I don’t think I have ever, or will ever meet someone quite like him! If you ask anyone who’s played with him, they’ll tell you he’s one of the funniest guys in football. He’s an absolute bundle of energy and is always looking to make a fool of himself or wind someone up and make a fool of them. A few stories come to mind, but one of my favourites was in Benidorm on an end of season do.. We were in our favourite bar, Tiki Beach, it was absolutely rammed with people spilling out on the beach promenade, full of Brits singing the classics like Sweet Caroline and Jolene.. Anyway, we’d all had a fair few to drink and Yetts ended up getting kicked out for standing on one of the tables (after several warnings) and off he went and like the good friends we are, not one of us went with him as we found the idea of him stood outside on his own quite funny.. 10 minutes went by and Yetts had wondered off and we starting thinking he’s got to be up to something as there’s no way he’d be this quiet. Next thing we know, he comes round the corner with a megaphone that he’d bought off one of the market stalls and starts chanting on his own at the top of his voice “BRING HIM BACK, BRING HIM BACK”.. before you know it, the whole of Tiki Beach Bar is chanting the same thing, it was like an experienced orchestra. After about 2/3 minutes of the owner sternly refusing our plea, he was left with no choice, if he wanted everyone to settle back down there was only one thing to do.. He gave the nod to the bouncers at the front and to an almighty cheer, in strolled the Yetty.”

“The arrival of Stewart to Treyew Road in 2005 at the start of the City revolution soon saw him become a fans favourite. He always made time for the fans and went out of his way to do this. His approachable good nature ended as soon as he stepped onto the field of play. He became the clubs record goal scorer in record time. He was always the joker in the pack and the fans soon created a song “Who’s that coming over the hill is it a Yetti?” The highlight of course for us all was the FA Vase victory to which Stewart once again made a major contribution to the victory. At the players breakfast before the match he was one of the first to pick up the special non league papers and was the centre of the banter between the players. Even though Stewart left the club to join Weymouth where the latest look was a wolf man, Stewarts heart was always at City where he had such a close affection with the fans. The word Legend is banded around too much in the game but in Stewart it is true, a real gentleman and history making player for City.”

“There are so many great memories of Yetti, in his pomp scoring goal after goal but a couple of fun memories include watching him score a hat-trick at Treyew Road (can’t remember who the opposition was) in an early FA cup round – we watched with Steve’s parents but had to move away from his mum in embarrassment when she kept shouting “Stewart “ at the top of her voice – way too formal for Yetti. Another time was when Yetti was playing for Weymouth and a whole crowd of us turned up at a Truro match there wearing Yetti beards in his honour- we were hoping to persuade him to come back to Truro I think. Now of course, he is back where he belongs and bringing the story bang up to date he started the singing in the clubhouse after the win away at Kings Langley a couple of weeks ago!”

“An incredibly infectious personality, someone who makes you laugh, drives you, inspires you and genuinely wants the best for you. He was influential for me growing up, I was just about breaking into the Truro team when there were a lot of experienced heads around the place, which for a young lad can be a very daunting task. From day one he looked after me, helped me improve and made those early days very easy for me. Since then, we’ve grown to be friends and I can’t say anything but good things about him as a person. As a footballer, you can’t hide from the fact of what he’s managed to achieve at every club he’s been at. The amount of games he’s played, the amount of goals he’s scored, the list goes on. Not a bad innings for someone who would self admit to not being able to pass or control a ball. I really look forward to crossing paths once again at some point in the future.”
