A long time ago in a county far, far away…
Truro City Football Club was formed in 1889 and were one of the founder members of the Cornwall County Football Association (CCFA) when they attended a meeting at the Royal Hotel in Truro on Wednesday 18th September 1889 when the CCFA was founded.
City’s first recorded game was played at Truro College against Penzance on Friday 4th October 1889, Truro won 7-1!
Truro didn’t taste defeat until their fifth match in January 1890 when they were beaten 3-0 away from home at Penzance. Prior to this loss, City had won all four games.
Further games were played at Tolgarrick, adjacent to the Treyew Road ground, they have also played at Kenwyn and Chapel Hill.
Truro’s first trophy was in 1895 when they won the Cornwall Senior Cup by beating Launceston 5-0. City have won the Cornwall Senior Cup a record 17 times, including 1930 when the cup was shared with Saltash Stars. The final had been drawn and Saltash could not raise a team for the replay due to some of their players having service commitments. Truro did offer to play and let Saltash include some guest players but the CCFA ruled the trophy should be shared, with each club holding the trophy for six months.
When the South Western League was formed in 1951, City were one of the founder members but they did not meet with instant success, having to seek re-election for the first two seasons.

Truro have had to seek re-election twice more; 1982 and 1983.

City have won the South Western League five times in total; 1960-61, 1969-70, 1992-93, 1995-96 and 1997-98.

In 2004, businessman Kevin Heaney first became involved with the club as Truro were in financial dire, Mr Heaney cleared the club’s debts and assumed ownership of Truro City Football Club. Under Heaney’s ownership Truro gained five promotions in six seasons – a British record and won the Vase at Wembley! The good times weren’t to last though and in 2012 Mr Heaney went bankrupt which caused a transfer embargo on the club and we had to enter administration which also resulted in a ten point penalty in the league and the club was on the brink of extinction!

Cue businessman Mr Peter Masters, who saved the club from folding at the last minute. In 2014/15 we celebrated 125 years of Truro City FC by winning the play-offs to gain promotion to the National League South. In 2017/18 City reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history! In July 2018 it was announced that Truro City would be playing their home games for the 2018/19 season at Plainmoor, Torquay! City returned to Treyew Road in January 2019 and the club was sold to the Cornish Pirates in March 2019.

For the 2021-2022, 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 seasons Truro City Football Club had to groundshare with Plymouth Parkway at Bolitho Park due to Treyew Road being sold by the then chairman and owner Kevin Heaney.
The 2024-2025 season, saw Truro City Football Club return to Cornwall in their new home at Langarth, as Truro won the National League South in their first season back in Kernow in their new ground the Truro City Stadium.
